Why does fleet glass cost more than the invoice says?

Mobile vehicle glass replacement at a customer location in Birmingham

The glass is the small number. Sending a vehicle to a fitting centre costs a driver for the round trip, the waiting time, the fuel, and often a spare vehicle covering the gap. On a van doing deliveries it can cost a whole day of revenue.

That’s the actual case for on-site work. It isn’t convenience, it’s removing the two journeys and the driver hours attached to them.

Can you do several vehicles in one visit?

Usually yes, if they’re at the same site and we have the right glass for each. That’s the main efficiency gain, because the travel and setup happen once instead of per vehicle.

Send all the registrations together rather than one at a time. Each gets checked individually, and that’s quicker in a batch.

Our vans are all the same model. Is the glass the same?

Not necessarily, and this catches operators out. Trim level, build year and options change the specification, so two identical looking vans can take different screens.

Every registration gets checked separately. It’s the difference between one visit and a second visit with the right part.

Who this suits

Small and medium van fleets

Vehicles based at one or two sites around Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Taxi and private hire operators

Time off the road is lost fares. Fitting arranged around shift patterns where possible.

Trades with several vehicles

Three or four vans that can’t all disappear across the city on the same morning.

Facilities and site managers

Vehicles parked at one location where on-site work removes the transport problem completely.

Who this doesn’t suit

If you run a national fleet needing guaranteed nationwide SLAs and a managed claims portal, we’re not the right fit and it’s better to say so now. This works for operators around Birmingham and the West Midlands who want the work done properly and locally.

What we need from you

✓A registration for each vehicle
✓The site postcode where they’ll be
✓Which glass is damaged on each one
✓Which vehicles have a camera, rain sensor or heated screen
✓Site access details and any permit or permission needed
✓A contact who can confirm access on the day

Sending this in one go is the difference between a quote the same day and a week of back-and-forth.

ADAS across a fleet

Do our vans need calibration after a windscreen?

Where a van has a forward facing camera behind the screen, calibration is required if the manufacturer specifies it. On a mixed-age fleet some vehicles will and some won’t.

Pilkington notes a camera can operate on incorrect parameters without showing a dashboard warning. Across ten vans, no warning lights is not evidence that ten systems are correct.

How do we know which of our vehicles are affected?

Send the registrations and we’ll tell you which carry windscreen mounted cameras. It’s worth knowing before damage happens rather than during it.

It also affects planning, because a calibration vehicle needs a longer slot than one without.

Fleet glass is quoted per vehicle, because a fleet of similar vans can carry different glass specifications. Published UK market data gives you a per-vehicle reference before you brief anyone.

National chain average, windscreens£659myWindscreen, 2026
ADAS static calibration£150 to £250Published calibration guides
ADAS dynamic calibration£200 to £350Published calibration guides

Across a fleet the difference compounds. myWindscreen recorded a 2026 average of £243 from independents against £659 from the national chains on comparable vehicles. Over ten screens a year that is a meaningful number, before you count the driver hours saved by not sending vehicles across the city.

Calibration is the line item that surprises fleet buyers

Almost anything from 2018 onward with a forward facing camera needs it, and it is charged on top of the glass. On a mixed-age fleet some vehicles will need it and some will not. Send the registrations and you will know which before the invoice rather than after.

How should we compare quotes across a fleet?

Per vehicle, not per fleet. A single headline rate hides the fact that a 2015 van and a 2022 camera-equipped one are different jobs at different costs.

Ask any supplier for the glass specification and calibration position on each registration. Anyone quoting one flat rate for a mixed fleet has not checked them.

Figures are published UK market data from myWindscreen and UK cost guides, 2026. They are not AI Auto Glass prices. Send your registrations for per-vehicle figures.

What glass do you fit?

OEE glass: original equipment equivalent. It is made to the same specification as the screen your vehicle left the factory with, often by the same manufacturers who supply the car makers, without the vehicle brand logo etched in the corner.

That logo is a large part of the price difference. OEE meets the same safety standards and reproduces the bracket positions, tint band and optical clarity your vehicle needs, which is why most independent glaziers fit it and why main dealer glass costs what it does.

There are vehicles where genuine OEM is worth paying for, usually Head Up Display screens and some acoustic screens on premium German cars, where the optical tolerances are tighter. If yours is one of them we will tell you rather than quietly fitting OEE and hoping you do not notice.

What we guarantee

Our fitting is guaranteed against water leaks, wind noise, bonding failure and workmanship. If any of those appear after we have replaced your glass, call us and we will come back and put it right. Read the guarantee.

Fleet work draws on the same standards as the rest of our vehicle glass services in Birmingham.
