What to do right now
Do not drive it if the glass is broken
Especially if the damage sits where you look through. Driving to a fitting centre is exactly what you should be avoiding.

Leave the fragments where they are

Is it illegal to drive with a cracked windscreen?
It depends on size and position. The DVSA MOT manual flags damage over 10mm in Zone A, the area in the driver’s line of sight, and over 40mm elsewhere in the swept area. The Highway Code requires windscreens to be free from obstructions to vision.
